Have a look at this list- the 100 best non-fiction books ever. I've read a grand total of 9 (and then only bits of them!). Can anyone beat my total?

Imagine if you read every single one of the books- you could talk on any subject and sound intelligent!

I love Eat, Pray, Love, though the sequel isn't as good.

Ha, I've actually read quite a few books from the list. It's what happens when you're a nerd. I'm wondering what criteria was used to select the books, though. I think they were chosen based on their social and political transcendence, but not necessarily on their literary merit.

I think when judging non-fiction books it is best to measure them by their social/political/historcial importance rather than literary merit. At the end of the day they are written for their ideas rather than to entertain the reader or to show off the author's skill.

That said, I do wish some of them weren't quite such a struggle to read!
