Diamond Jubilee Events This Weekend

If you're in Britain, chances are that you've heard that the Queen is celebrating 60 years on the throne this weekend. As part of the massive four-day weekend Diamond Jubilee celebrations there are loads of events going on. Here we pick out some of the best for you to get involved in.

• Street Parties (Sunday 3rd June): More than 10,000 street parties have been arranged for Sunday as part of the ‘Big Jubilee Lunch'. Millions of people will be joining up with their friends and neighbours to celebrate in a quintessentially British way- by eating and drinking. With so many going on there will be one almost certainly be one nearby you. Find out where here.

• Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant (Sunday 3rd June): One of the biggest gatherings of boats ever on the Thames is also taking place on Sunday. Over 1,000 boats from around the world will be making their way down the river, all centred around the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh who will travel in the Royal Barge (shown above). • Live Big Screens (Sunday/Monday/Tuesday): If you can't get to London, don't worry, all the celebrations are being shown live on big screens around the country. They are sure to attract a party atmosphere similar to that for the Royal Wedding, so they'll be well worth checking out. Find out the closest screen to you. 

• Buckingham Palace Concert (Monday 4th June): The BBC is hosting a huge concert with some of the biggest names in music, at a unique location- Buckingham Palace. Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, JLS and Kylie Minogue are all performing to name just a few. Find out more. 

• Jubilee Beacons (Monday 4th June): Over 4,000 beacons are being lit throughout the UK and other Commonwealth countries on the Monday. The network of beacons aims to bring communities together. The Queen herself is lighting the National Beacon in central London. Find out more. 

• Carriage Processions (Tuesday 5th June): After attending a service at St. Paul's Cathedral, the Queen and Prince Philip will lead a formal Carriage Procession throughout the streets of London. Much like for the Royal Wedding, thousands of people are expected to line the streets to catch a glimpse of the royals. See the route of the procession here.
