The 2013 Nominees (in Alphabetical Order)
Steve Ballmer - Vote HereThe CEO of Microsoft, the world's largest software company, announced his resignation in 2013 due to the falling performance of the company. Immediately, Microsoft's shares rose. He is an example of a leader who sacrifices his position in favour of the company. This is what each employee should aim for. Maybe it could be a new strategy for the investors to boost up their shares in the company too eh? |
Pope Francis - Vote HereA modest man who would happily share the golden robe with the poor, Pope Francis is open to dialogue between the Church and politics. Seen as a refreshingly modern Pope, he tweets to his 3.5 million Twitter followers and has argued that Catholics have concentrated too much on condemning abortion, contraception, and homosexuality in recent years. He's clearly doing something right, as he has tripled the crowds visiting the Vatican compared to 2012. |
Angela Merkel - Vote HereThe leader of the Christian Democratic Union stormed the German parliamentary election in September. She was confirmed as the most powerful woman in Europe when chosen as German Chancellor for another term and has already promised a new wave of European austerity. |
Kate Middleton - Vote HereAdmired for everything from her conduct, to the way she dresses, she is now also mother to the future king of England. As the first non-aristocratic queen-in-waiting in 350 years, together with her husband William who serves as a helicopter pilot, they provide an example of family life. They are the best way possible to maintain the credit of the Royal family. |
Keith Richards - Vote HereThe legendary guitarist & songwriter, celebrated his 70th birthday in December 2013 despite the predictions that he would not get through his 30's. Yet, the warped teenager is a symbol of the era when rock & roll was measured in concerts and criminal records; not YouTube watches and magazine headlines. |
Drummer Lee Rigby - Vote HereA few weeks after the Boston bombing, two Islamist fanatics beheaded a soldier on the streets of London. Lee Rigby left behind a wife and daughter. Killing soldiers on the battlefield is no longer enough and the fear of terrorism has come knocking at our door. |
Edward Snowden - Vote HereA former technician at the CIA, Edward Snowden revealed the thousands of filtration practices of America's secret agencies. Immediately, he became the centre of the world's attention, condemned as a traitor and threat to national security by some, and a hero who confirmed the warning of George Orwell in his novel 1984 by others. |
Malala Yousafzai - Vote HereAfter being attacked by the Taliban for her pro-education campaign, Malala Yousafzai became the youngest person to ever be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize at just 16-years-old. Malala deserves sympathy and recognition; her peaceful protest attracted the world's attention to global issues such as the rights for education and the rights of women. |
