Best Universities in the World for Social Sciences Revealed

The latest world university rankings for social science courses have been released, with Harvard (pictured above) coming out top in all but one of the six disciplines ranked. The American university topped the tables in accounting and finance, economics, law, politics and international relations, and sociology, whilst it was just beaten by Stanford in statistics.

Some of the top universities in the UK also faired well, with at least three featuring in the top ten of every single subject. Indeed, Oxford and Cambridge are both within the ten best universities in the world for all six disciplines, whilst top London universities LSE, Imperial, UCL and London Business School also all make appearances.

Graduate Employabilty 

The rankings, which were released by top higher education research company QS, are based on performance in a number of categories. One category that was judged which is particularly important in the current climate is the quality of graduates as judged by global employers. A wide selection of graduate employers were asked who they believe produce the best graduates overall and within selected disciplines.

John O'Leary, Editor of the Times Good University Guide and member of the QS Academic Advisory Board, commented that:

"Employability is by no means the only benefit of a university education, but with £9,000 per-year fees and 83 graduates now competing for every job, it is inevitably at the forefront of many prospective students' minds. The reality is that students will be paying the same amount for degrees that in practice have vastly different market values."
